As novice golfers, most of us remember the bombardment of information that seemed so critical to learn if we were to develop a perfect, or, at least great golf swing. The beginning of the road to ruin. Golf tips, golf videos, golf lessons, golf forums, golf instruction DVDs…. information was coming at you from all directions. Expressions such as “over the top,” “extension through the ball” and “chicken wing” complicated matters even more. That first over the top golf swing you took probably missed the ball completely or, at best, shot it out to the right like one of those failed missile launches at the Cape.
But there was something that was both powerful and graceful in that first swing. Sadly, as we learned more of the technical aspects of the golf swing, most of that disappeared. Vanished.
I got it all back, of course, when I created the OVER THE TOP GOLF® swing. What a damn relief!

Let’s take a look at some of the stuff I don’t worry about any more. When I look back on the frustration and pain (yes, some of the drills and “cures” for an over the top golf swing were painful) I feel kind of embarrassed.

As most golfers know, the list goes on forever. Believe it or not, the topics above were taken from just one list of posts in a random golf forum. Multiplying that by the number of forums and discussion groups would add up to a total of at least a million common golf swing deficiencies.
If you are a very good golfer then one or two of these issues might present themselves from time to time. If you are simply a good to average to not so good golfer, you have a lot of these problems. Once I did too.
The OVER THE TOP GOLF® swing requires very little thought because you can go at it like you did that first day as a novice golfer. Golf lessons and other instruction methods can become things of the past. So can terminology like extension through the ball, sliding hips and chicken wings. Perfect golf swings are non-existent.
